UPDATE: 2018 Remembrance Day
On Remembrance Day, we commemorate the courageous deeds of members of the armed forces (soldiers, sailors and airmen).
The other conventional name for this day is Armistice Day, which marks the date and time when armies stopped fighting World War One, i.e., November 11th at 11 a.m. in 1918 (the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month). Some 100,000 Canadian soldiers died in both the First and Second World Wars.
Remembrance Day is a time for all Canadians to remember the men and women who served and sacrificed for our country. STANDARD is proud to commemorate Canadian veterans by donating $1 to The Royal Canadian Legion on behalf of each STANDARD employee.
UPDATE: 2017 Remembrance Day
For the past couple of years, STANDARD has been commemorating Remembrance Day by donating $1 on behalf of each STANDARD employee and distributing a poppy to all team members.
As a proud Canadian company, STANDARD commemorates and honours servicemen and women killed in all conflicts since 1914 by wearing the poppy.
Once again this year, STANDARD supports the Royal Canadian legion by donating $1 on behalf of each STANDARD employee to allow them to wear a poppy on Remembrance Day.
The donation to The Royal Canadian Legion will be used in programs to help Veterans and their families in need, youth education and leadership development initiatives, as well as services to seniors in communities all across Canada.

Poppy history
For over 90 years, the Poppy has been a symbol of honour and ultimate sacrifice, inspired by Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae’s poem In Flanders Fields, written in May 1915. In Canada, the Poppy has stood as a visual symbol of our Remembrance since 1921.
